How do I get a Medicare Rebate?
-
Visit a General Practitioner (GP):
-
Make an appointment with your GP to discuss your mental health concerns. Your GP will assess your condition and may provide you with a referral to a psychologist if they believe it is necessary.
-
-
Get a Mental Health Care Plan:
-
If your GP believes you need psychological treatment, they will create a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). This plan outlines your mental health needs and the number of sessions recommended.
-
-
Choose a Psychologist:
-
With the MHCP, you have the flexibility to choose a psychologist who is registered with Medicare. Make sure the psychologist you choose is on the list of eligible providers.
-
-
Book an Appointment with the Psychologist:
-
Schedule an appointment with the psychologist of your choice. You will need to provide them with your MHCP details.
-
-
Attend the Sessions:
-
Attend the agreed-upon number of sessions with your psychologist.
-
-
Pay the Full Fee:
-
Initially, you'll need to pay the full fee for each session. The psychologist will provide you with an invoice.

Do you do home visits?
If you live in Camden (NSW, 2570) and you are elderly, disabled or are otherwise unable to attend in-person, home visits can be negotiated. Of course, that would mean that the psychologist requires additional time to drive to your home and back before the next client. It is preferred that you opt for telehealth or phone consults if you are unable to visit in person.

I work full time - how can I see a psychologist?
Belhaven psychology is open from 9am to 7pm, Monday to Friday. Weekend appointments can also be negotiated.
If you prefer to remain at work, rather than travel to our offices, then you may opt for telehealth or a phone appointment.

I am hesitant to see a psychologist. Do I have to have a record through Medicare?
It is entirely feasible to consult with a psychologist even without a Mental Health Care Plan. It's understandable that some individuals may be reluctant to discuss their challenges, preferring not to share them with family, with EAP or maintain any visible attendance records. Private sessions can be arranged for a fee, with the cost of a standard consultation set at $150. You will not receive a rebate if you attend without a MHCP.

How do I arrange a booking? How do I meet my psychologist online?
Step 1: To arrange a booking, please contact us on 0434979148 or email us at belhaven-psychology@outlook.com. Please note that our phones are not always monitored, so please leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Step 2: When we get in contact, we will discuss which days and times suit you. We will then book you in!
Step 3: You will be sent a link via text or email to complete an intake form. These forms are very important and help speed up our processes - if not we will have to call you again, and again trying to get more details. Save yourself the hassle and complete it prior to your first session. Please see our 'resources' page to see what our forms look like and what information you will need to provide.
Step 4: If you are an online client, you will be sent a link via text or email the morning of your appointment which will take you to a secure video platform 'Powerdiary.' You do not need to download anything, just make sure your microphone and video camera are working properly.
